Daytime Trouble, Nighttime Sweetheart

Friday has a very specific arrangement with me: she gets to be a menace during the day, and I have to forgive her at night.

During the day, she has important things to do. Like playing with her water bowl. Or making sure I never, ever close the bathroom door. Sometimes I feel like I spend half my day negotiating with a tiny creature who doesn’t understand the word no.

I can’t say she has a very predictable daytime schedule. But her nighttime sleeping spot is always the same.

Our bedtime routine

Every night, Friday sleeps right next to my pillow. And somehow, we’ve developed the habit of holding hands while we sleep. Sometimes I reach my hand toward her, and she rests her little head on it, as though I’ve thoughtfully provided her with a pillow.

Friday sleeping by my pillow Friday’s favorite nighttime spot.

It’s honestly ridiculous how quickly I forget all the trouble she caused during the day. A few hours earlier, I might have been begging her to leave the water bowl alone. Now she’s curled up beside me, holding my hand, and I can’t imagine being mad at her.
