Meet My Research Assistant
I have a research assistant now. Her name is Friday, and unfortunately, she’s not very good at typing.
Whenever I sit down at my desk, she decides it’s time for her to work too. She walks back and forth across my keyboard, investigates my laptop, and occasionally tries to repair my monitor. I haven’t figured out what was wrong with the monitor in the first place, but Friday clearly has concerns.
Friday helping me with my research.
Her contributions aren’t limited to hardware maintenance. She also likes joining my Zoom meetings, whether or not she’s been invited.
And, on more than one occasion, she’s managed to send complete gibberish to my advisor. I can only hope my advisor recognizes that those messages were not written by me.
So far, Friday has contributed zero proofs and a remarkable amount of keyboard input to my Ph.D. Still, she shows up for work every day with impressive enthusiasm. Don’t worry, Friday. We’re going to get this PhD degree.
